I love yoga.
I need yoga.
God blessed me with a Type A personality that has served me well in movin’ on up the corporate rope ladder. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve discovered that stress can take a toll on the body and in the mind. And shifting from “Mr. Bell, the Board is ready for you” to “Daddy’s home!” can be a jolting transition.

I took my first yoga class several months ago. A gym friend recommended trying out a Kundalini class after I mentioned that I was bored with my current workout routines. She went on and on about how yoga will work a different set of muscles, increase flexibility, and teach you how to relax. I was reluctant until she mentioned that I’d be in a room full of stretching, leotard clad women.
I barely made it through that first class. Kundalini is a fairly vigorous style of yoga. Lots of bending, stretching and calisthenic type activity. At the end there was a period of meditation, but I think I was too winded to get anywhere near my inner nirvana.
Over time I have become better. And the meditation piece at the end has really helped me to learn how to relax, or at least slow down and control my stress levels.

I always thought kundalini was about sexual expression through yoga. Shows how much I know!
It is interesting that as a fit man yoga was challenging because I also saw it as an easy form of exercise - again shows how much I know
I also feel the need to get hot and sweaty to feel as if I have achieved something so a lot of jumping around and being out of breath was needed but now I need something slower because I haven’t jumped around for years now - just sat on a chair!
