Greatest Sport You’ve Probably Never Watched

I’ve spent quite a bit of time traveling to Australia over the last 3-4 years. Had the opportunity to live in Adelaide, the Southern Capital, for 4 months on a work assignment. It was during football season (Australian Rules Football, or “footie”) and some of my mates there introduced me to the sport. The Adelaide Crows was the home team, and I got the chance to go to many a match and watch others on television.

I fell in love with the sport. It’s a cross between American football, rugby, and the old “kill the man with the ball” games we used to play as kids. No pads, but pretty much full contact. And let me tell you, the players are some of the most conditioned athletes I’ve ever seen.

I still get my fix of the sport by catching some games online or even sometimes on late night ESPN. You can also see highlight clips on YouTube and other video sites on the Web.

Check out this video of some of Footie’s greatest hits:

The rules of the game are fascinating and pretty easy to pick up. Here’s a link to the current footie rules
