Lauren -

I do know that a few of the juice makers, such as Odwalla, have started using 'flash pasteurization' processes where the heat exposure is quick and supposedly not as damaging as the prolonged cooking effect of standard pasteurization procedures. And remember, V8 and those other 'natural' juices you see in the produce coolers are, regardless of the partial loss of nutrients associated with pasteurization, still better than sodas, most bottled fruit juices (due to the added sugar), and any of the liquid or powdered drinks that contain artificial sweeteners. We love our Diet Cokes, but aspartame is not a good thing to have accumulating in our bodies.

Thanks for the comment -

What about those juices they carry in the produce section. Do you think those have been pasteurized and have little nutritional value as well?

I bought a "free" sample of Pure Resv. Not only was it not free, but I was unable to cancel the "subscription" that I unwittingly initiated. I had to cancel my credit card so that they could not charge me anymore. Further, it turns out that the supplement is manufactured in China, home of contaminated baby food and other suspicious products, so I threw it away.
There are certainly other internet scams, but PURE RESV is the worst I've ever encountered

Barry -

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that amongst all the scams and questionable supplement offers out there, that there are legitimate supplement makers that put out quality products that deliver what they claim on the label. It's key that people do their homework before jumping at an ad that promises the latest miracle cure for weight loss, longevity, or any of the other conditions that people are dealing with.

By the way, you're site is very informative.

Thanks -

J.D.

When you leave a health care system in the hands of companies whose only interest is to turn a profit, it is no wonder that we have 47 million Americans uninsured and even more underinsured and prices becoming unaffordable for only the wealthiest Americans. Many of these uninsured people are hard working Americans. One of our problems is that we rely on companies to provide health insurance and many small companies can no longer refuse to provide this coverage. For all those people complaining at the town hall meetings, will they refuse medicare when they are 65, refuse to use govenrment built roads, not send their chilren to public school.

Thanks for your contribution to Take Charge of Your Health Care Carnival.

MArcia -

You would not believe how many others have gone through what you're experiencing in dealing with these "free" supplement scams. I would encourage you to contact your credit card company to dispute any charges related to any product that you did not order or do not intend to keep. And yes, sometimes the only way to keep them from billing you again is to cancel the card unfortunately.

I ordered a "free" 30 day supply of Pure Resv. Not only did they charge for the product before it even arrived, but I have made six attempts to cancel the account to not avail. The manufacturer is in China and their customer support is in Canada. They keep promising to send an email confirming account cancellation, but they have not done it. I am going to have to cancel my credit card in order to prevent them from putting additional charges on my account.

HELENA - go look at Britain, Canada, Masschusetts, Tennessee and Hawaii where they have and tried single payer systems or versions thereof! All are broke, overwhelmed, and provide long lines, years of wait, and less quality health care. And as far as leaving 47 million uninsured? Remove about 20 million ILLEGALS from the rolls and that leaves a lot less people to insure. Some of that remaining 27 million are between jobs and can get care if they get new jobs. Given the economy that might be tough however. SO...why tear down what is in place and works for about 90% of the population? Instead, offer basic health care of a single payer type for those who can't afford health care - truly not afford - not just too lazy to work types like my neighbor who is on medicaid! She would rather sit and watch soap operas for 4 hours a day than work!

Take care of the uninsured but don't take away what is good and with which people are satisfied! Now that IS socialism!
